The whole film, except for a small scene travel Melisenta and Sam in nature, was shot in the pavilion.

The shooting were held in the summer of 1978, just a month and a half. The Director was forced to adjust to the working schedule of dancers whom summer was a vacation in the theater and the movie was in two shifts.

In the mid 1970-ies the composer and part-time radio Amateur Alexander Zatsepin arranged in his Moscow apartment a fully-fledged recording Studio. It was written and arranged all the songs for the film. Although the film was shot quite officially, in a recording Studio "Mosfilm" there were no conditions to implement all the ideas of the composer.

The leitmotif of the film (theme Melisenty) is the melody of the song "Looking for you". For songs attracted leading singers of the country: rock band "Araks" and the ensemble "Melody", but the most unexpected was the choice voice for Princess Melisenty. 23-year-old soloist of the ensemble "Music" from Uzhgorod, Tatiana Anciferova was invited to Moscow in the trial record Alexander Zatsepin. These records proved so successful that it went into the movie without duplicates. In addition to Antsiferovo in the samples participated Larisa Dolina and Irina Ponarovskaya. The song "a World without the beloved" Antsiferovo forbidden to perform on stage, because at this time the Director Yuri Lyubimov left in Paris. The arts Council of said: "How can we skip this song? The ban of the film was also helped by the fact that in the early 1980-ies the composer Alexander Zatsepin left USSR for permanent residence in France (including due to issues with this film). Some nitpicking guide to the content of the songs and prohibitions seemed absurd: the Song "World without a loved one" allegedly called the Association went abroad unreliable Yuri Lyubimov
